Narli purnima


Narli purnima a regional festival of Maharashtra . It is celebrated on shravan purnima the full moon day of this month. It is a traditional festival mainly in coastal Maharastra. On this day fishermen (KOLI)  community with a palanquin procession head towards the sea with traditional music and dance from the village (Koliwada).
                                           Narli purnima is celebrated as thanksgiving day to the sea god. On this day they worship samudra (Sea Goa) and Varuna Deva (Rain God). They offer coconut to sea god to protect them from Natural calamities, this festival represents the beginning of new fishing season. From this day without any fear a fisherman sails with his boat to catch fishes.
